Good preparation makes bed bug treatment far more effective. Follow these steps before our visit.
Bed bugs are one of the most stressful pests to deal with, but they can be treated successfully. How you prepare before our first visit makes a real difference to the result.
Before we arrive
- Strip the beds in affected rooms and wash bedding at 60°C, or the hottest temperature the fabric allows, then tumble dry on a hot setting
- Wash or tumble dry clothing from the affected rooms and store it in sealed bags
- Clear items from under beds and around skirting boards so we can reach them
- Vacuum the floors and empty the vacuum into a sealed bag outside
- Do not move furniture, mattresses or belongings to other rooms, as this can spread bed bugs
What happens on the first visit
We inspect the affected rooms and start treatment straight away with a professional bed bug steamer. Steam kills bed bugs and eggs on contact. Where suitable, we may also treat cracks and voids that steam cannot reach.
After treatment
- Keep sleeping in your own bed, as this helps draw out remaining bugs
- Do not bring second-hand furniture into the home during treatment
- Expect a follow-up visit, usually around two weeks later
If you are a landlord or manage an HMO, tell us whether other rooms or flats may be affected so we can plan the inspection properly.
